$65.00

Sunday, October 25, 2026 · 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. PT (1:30 to 3:00 p.m. ET) · 1.5 CE credits · $65

What do people want from therapy, and what do they get wrong about it? Drawing on an unprecedented research project from the Psychotherapy Action Network (PsiAN), first fielded in 2020, with a new study released in 2025, Dr. Michaels explores the attitudes and expectations people bring to therapy, which benefits matter most to them, and what they do and don’t know about mental health care. The discussion offers a blueprint for communicating more effectively with both patients and the general public.

Learning objectives

  1. Examine the benefits that the general public seeks from therapy and their attitudes towards issues of mental health care.

  2. Describe the public’s stated obstacles to seeking mental health care.

  3. Summarize the 4 research-based pillars for communicating effectively with the public about therapies of depth, insight, and relationship.
